I've been speaking to several developers lately in order to try and get my hands on some decent-looking scripts to build a decent-looking warserver. Unfortunately the answer is always: NO... or, PAY FOR IT.
The whole beauty of UO was that the MAIN developer made it open-source... This open collaboration has been lost over the years. No one shares shard scripts even if they do not feel like keeping the server on. Some rather delete it off their hard-drive than open it to public. Only we (players/developers) are penalized for this.
I just wanted to remind all of you out there that keeping the scripts open for people will save HOURS of tweaking, and will perhaps allow the future developers to fix other glitches in the game. However, every time a server pops up it is the SAME thing - same bugs, same glitches - over, and over again.
Unless you like to be secretive cheat in your own server, there is absolutely no reason why not to share scripts.
Anyways, just wanted to put that out there - because as I said before - only we are penalized by this. If every server ZH was a continuation of the last one, i'm sure we would all be having lots of fun right now..........

Admin Nagash recently added some script sources to zuluarchive based on POL99 (should be more stable than POL98 which was run here on dreams). I'm not sure what the differences between the POL99 based versions are though..

Make Dreams scripts available too! Even if the core is buggy, perhaps the scripts can be ported to some other core. Or just DL'd by some people (like me) who like to set up their own private shard and toy around.

The Archive is being used as a database, a resource for conversion of ZH to RunUO. its basically just a look into the inner workings of ZH in witch to draw from and make things easyer for us. POL is broken, there is no point in hoarding scripts, dreams has stated he will not release his version because of how unstable POL it is. POL is dead.
if you are just interested in Tinkering around just download a working box copy of RunUO, JustUO or SurvUO.
Casanova you are more then welcome to help us in our conversion, i think your time would be better spent looking towards the future then trying to dig up the past.

Out of curiosity, how far along are you guys in the conversion? I recently downloaded servuo and started adding small bits and pieces from ZH, and quickly realized there is a lot to be done ^^ Do you guys keep your source code open somewhere so one can check it out? I might be able to help out but my time is pretty limited and I don't have a lot of experience with runuo, I do work with programming though. |

I think ServUO is a branch from RunUO, but RunUO has been discontinued while ServUO is still in development. Correct me if I'm wrong...

You are correct Ironclad, JustUO and ServUO are both forks of RunUO.
Sticking to POL is basically a bad/lazy decision. There's always issues with every POL version and when you think you have everything running perfectly, there will be someone using a nasty bug that will ruin the economy or some other major part of the shard. RunUO based emulators simply have had more testing done and are more developed than POL.
In short. If your thinking about starting another POL shard. Take a look at ServUO or JustUO first before you decide. Or join some of the teams already working on the conversion. #zuluhotel on quakenet is a good place to talk about the conversion from POL to RunUO.
